Good morning, good afternoon, good evening. Depending on the part of the world you’re in. This is Jonathan Satovsky of Satovsky Asset Management. Today’s episode of “Seeking Wisdom, Wealth, and Wellness,” [involves] a formula for happiness.
Happiness = Reality – Expectations
Now, I may have expectations if I was playing sports to win a championship, or if I was investing, I would want to outperform the market, outperform my peers, or outperform everyone that I know. And those might be the expectations. But are these the right expectations? Or do these expectations set us up for misery versus something simpler?
For example, [think of ] the concept that when you wake up in the morning, the only responsibility you have is to control your mindset, your attitude, and how you respond to things that happen throughout the course of your day. For me, I learned something a while ago that I thought was rather profound, which was to say that your only responsibility is to bring light to dark situations, whether it’s in the world or whether it’s in people’s lives, and to shift perspectives. So if you can make one person smile, laugh, help them with their mindset, help them with their perspective—that’s the definition of a good day, for me.
So again, remember: Happiness = Reality – Expectations. So you can set your expectations high and hurdle it, or you can set them realistically on the impact that you can make with every interaction on your path to Wisdom, Wealth, and Wellness.
Have a great day.
