Fear Sells | Jonathan Satovsky Thoughts

Satovsky Asset Management

In wealth management, adopting an endowment mindset can transform how you approach your financial future. By focusing on sustainable strategies that weather market fluctuations, you can secure your legacy for generations to come.

Fear sells. Fear sells 2 to 5 times. Fear sells. Why do I say this? We’re now in January of 2025, and the vast majority of people I speak to are gripped with fear. Fear of loss. Fear of the election. Fear of tariffs. Fear of change. Fear of markets. Oh, they’ve had two great years in a row. Can’t keep going. It’s got to. And it’s got to go down. Well, for your fact. Little statistic. You know, often they say there’s a concept how the first five days of January goes or how the month of January goes is how the market goes. So midway through the month, we’re on track for a positive January, which means there’s an 80% probability, from my understanding, hearing from some other experts in the area, a very high probability that we’re going to have a positive year, in fact, a double-digit year in the US markets. Personally, I expect a lot more volatility because change brings with it a lot of anxiety.

People buying, people selling, people sort of getting wrapped up in the moment. That being said, I’ll say as we sit here in mid-January, people are on the spectrum of 0 to 100. We’ve been vacillating between 23 to 30 on the fear, to extreme fear. Sentiment level AAII sentiment survey jump in bearish sentiment. Massive jump in bearish sentiment. And I imagine it would follow by money flows that would relate to that. So in my desire to create better investors over a lifetime versus making sure you pick the best investments to become a better investor, you got to keep the habit and discipline of saving and investing, regardless of the sentiment on your path to wisdom, wealth, and wellness.

Have a great day!
